Beginning at 10 p.m. on Tue., Feb. 9, the catalog and services requiring your library card to log in will be unavailable overnight during maintenance.
Central Library’s electrical consumption is currently 2,472,690 kWh’s, after the remodel it will be around 1,454,660 kWh’s – the savings of which calculates to the yearly average usage of 56 Oklahoma homes. Water savings after the remodel is expected to save 91,000 gallons which equals the yearly average usage of 16 Oklahoma homes.
Raised floors on 1st, 2nd & 3rd floors, will offer electrical outlets for those who choose to take advantage of the library’s free WiFi and their own electronic device for research.
Interior lighting will be more efficient with the remodel. Today Central Library lighting is the same throughout the building and at the same level all through the day. The lighting plan for the remodeled library will offer lighting on the book shelves and when the sun is fully out interior lights will automatically dim when not needed. When the day is gray and when evening falls, interior lights will accommodate those changes.
Two open area bike racks as well as one under cover will be enjoyed by local cyclists and library staff who cycle to work.
