Saying Goodbye

On the afternoon of February 24, Library Commissioners, County Commissioners, Tulsa Library Trust members, donors and friends gathered to say goodbye to the last remaining sign of the old Central Library.  Within seconds after the signal was given by Library CEO Gary Shaffer, the Central Library sign at the corner of 5th Street and Denver was brought down.  See the complete demolition in the attached video.

Education and Ideation Center

The renovated Central Library will feature the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation Education and Ideation Center, a place where children and teens learn as well as engage and create. This will be a center for ideation where young minds will be cultivated and adult educators will come together to help solve the unique challenges they are experiencing in their classrooms, schools and districts.

Pardon Us While We Turn The Page To Our Future

A new Tulsa Central Library Renewed sign has been placed on Denver at 5th Street to inform the public that renovation of the Central Library is underway.  It includes a beautiful architectural rendering depicting the main entrance to the library and the new parking garage as they will be seen from 5th Street.

Fifth Street Entrance Demolition

The original fountains at the entrance of the library have been removed to make way for a new main entrance plaza, which will be accessible from the reopened Fifth Street.

The Dig

The photo shows equipment in the lower basement where the slab has been cut to accommodate new underground plumbing.  Upstairs, demolition of elevator door frames and plaster in the stairways continues.  With the security fence in place, demolition can begin on the planters at the south end of the library.
