Vision2

On Monday the Tulsa County Commission approved a ballot initiative to extend the Vision 2025sales tax rate. The initiative, known as Vision2, would not be a new tax, but would extend the 0.6% Vision 2025 sales tax rate through 2029. As it stands now, this tax would expire January 1, 2017.

Deferred Action for Immigrant Children

On June 15, 2012 President Obama, under executive action, changed Homeland Security policy to not initiate deportation of non-threatening illegal  immigrants who came to the United States before age 16. This process is know as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Today (August 15) was the first day U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) began accepting requests for deferred action. 

Aid for Wildfire Victims... an update

In spite of the wildfires, Mannford students head back to school tomorrow (August 16). As residents of Creek County and other communities around the state try to find normalcy in the wake of the wildfires, more help arrives.

Governor Fallin has requested disaster relief funds from the federal government. There is no timeline on when this requres will be filled or denied. Any notice will definitely appear on this blog.

Wildfire Relief

Last week Oklahoma experienced a series of devastating wildfires that scorched over 93,000 acres and left hundreds homeless. Saturday in Tulsa, residents saw hazy orange skies and ash raining from the sky... visual evidence of the destruction and heartache that was impacting fellow Okies. As the smoke begins to clear, literally & figuratively, families and communities across Oklahoma will start rebuilding.

Tax Free Shopping Starts Tomorrow

Oklahoma Sales Tax Holiday Starts Tomorrow: August 3-5, 2012

Beginning at 12:01 am on Friday, August 3, 2012 and ending at twelve midnight on Sunday, August 5, 2012, Oklahoma will hold a sales tax holiday giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain clothing and shoes free of sales tax. This includes state and any local sales taxes.
