The Khan Acadamy,  www.khanacademy.org, contains over 2,700 videos and 260 practice exercises for people interested in learning anything from arithmetic to physics to investing. As they say, "Watch. Practice. Learn almost anything for free.” Though this site is heavily focused on science (including healthcare and medicine), math, history, and economics, there are also videos for general SAT and GMAT prep.  Take a little time to check it out; we guarantee that you will learn something!

Free Learning Online I: Universal Class

Did you know that you can take free non-credit courses through Universal Class with your TCCL library card number? You can enroll in up to five courses, and you have six months to complete each course. You can take courses that focus on developing specific knowledge and skills, like accounting, history, medical coding, language arts, office skills, etc. You can also take courses to prepare for the GED!

Early Voting Starts Friday

vote buttonThe General Election is next Tuesday, November 6 meaning early voting starts this Friday, November 2.

Early in-person voting will be available at the Tulsa County Election Board (555 N. Denver Ave., Tulsa) on Friday November 2 8am-6pm, Saturday November 3 8am-1pm, and Monday November 5 8am-6pm.

Polls will be open 7am-7pm on election day, Tuesday November 6.

Reading for Dark Days

I’ve recently experienced a loss in my family, and I notice that I’m having a lot of difficulty reading full length novels.  It’s hard for me to concentrate for longer stretches of time, and I find myself having to re-read passages to piece together how characters connect or how plot is progressing.  I’ve left a lot of books abandoned this month—sad piles with bookmarks at page 180, page 50, even page 10.  These temporarily under-appreciated books are ones I will come back to, but not now.  Fortunate
