2013 Asian-American Festival set for June 1

   Celebrate and learn about the customs and traditions of Asian-Americans with entertaining, educational events for the entire family as Tulsa City-County Library presents the 11th annual Asian-American Festival from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road.

Library Installs New Hearing Loops

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, “Approximately 17 percent of American adults over the age of 55 report some degree of hearing loss.”

   Hearing loss is a common aspect of aging.  Tulsa City-County Library recognizes this is a hurdle to enjoying a full range of library programming.  TCCL recently installed an audio induction loop at these locations:

Summer Reading Program for Children and Teens

   Keep the pages turning and the children learning this summer with Tulsa City-County Library’s annual children’s and teen summer reading programs.

   Since 1982, the annual program has inspired children and teens to continue reading, learning and exploring.  More than 45,000 children and teens participated in the 2012 summer reading program, and they read more than 390,000 books during the summer.

   The 2013 summer reading program theme for children is “Dig into Reading” and the tween/teen theme is “Beneath the Surface.”

National Day of Civic Hacking at Central Library

  Join the National Day of Civic Hacking at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue, June 1, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., to learn about the benefits of civic hacking and help create the Tulsa Wiki, www.tulsawiki.org.

   Community members can contribute for part or all of the day.  A wrap-up and drawing for door prizes begins at 3:30 p.m.  Learn the basics during Wiki 101 talks throughout the day, enjoy food from local contributors and create a strong sense of community.

Enjoy Storytime Down by the River

   Who can resist reading great books on a leisurely morning by the river’s edge? 

   Join Tulsa City-County Library’s Reading Roadshow for “Storytime in the Park,” Thursdays, May 9, 16, 23, 30; June 6, at 10 a.m. at the QuikTrip Plaza at River Parks, 41st and Riverside.  The series concludes June 6 with a guest performance by Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band.
