Library to offer free workshop series focusing on managing chronic health conditions

   Thousands of Oklahomans live with chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, stroke, arthritis and pain. Understanding how to self-manage these conditions can mean the difference between daily struggles and living healthier, more comfortable lives.

ACCESS A LITTLE ROMANCE ON VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine’s Day is almost upon us and it’s the perfect time to curl up with a great romance eBook.  Beginning the week of Valentine’s Day the Tulsa City-County Library will pilot an additional eBook service called Always Available eBooks, featuring nearly 800 romance titles, as well as more than 22,000 other titles in dozens of genres from nearly 30 publishers. 

Library to Honor Oklahoma Screenwriter and Filmmaker Sterlin Harjo

   Sterlin Harjo, Seminole/Muscogee (Creek), will receive the Tulsa Library Trust’s “Festival of Words Writers Award” March 2, 10:30 a.m. at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue.  His award presentation will be followed by a day of educational American Indian family events from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

   Before his award, a free showing of Harjo’s movie “Barking Water” is scheduled for Feb. 28, 7 p.m., University of Tulsa, Lorton Performance Center, Recital Hall, 550 S. Gary Place.  This movie screening is free and open to the public.

Libraries Warm Up With Adult Winter Reading Program

   Tulsa City-County Library invites adults to escape the winter blues with the “Adult Winter Reading Program,” Jan. 29-March 29.

   Adults who read or listen to eight books will earn a TCCL book bag and be entered in a drawing for the grand prize – a Kindle Fire HD or an iPod Touch 16G.

   TCCL has planned the following author events to complement the Adult Winter Reading Program:

Free Music Downloads with Your Tulsa City-County Library Card

   Have you downloaded your three free songs this week from Tulsa City-County Library?

   To help connect library customers with the music they enjoy, TCCL will begin a six-month pilot program using the downloadable music service Freegal Music, starting Jan. 28.  You can find songs from many of today's chart-topping musicians.  With dozens of genres and more than 3 million songs from 10,000 music labels, including Sony Music Entertainment, Freegal Music is designed for all musical preferences.  New songs and labels are added weekly to keep the selection fresh.
