Tulsa Library Trust Receives $2,000 Literacy Grant From Target

   The Tulsa Library Trust recently received a $2,000 grant from Target continuing its support of the family literacy project “Every Child Ready to Read,” formerly known as “Read to Me, I’ll Read to You,” offered by Tulsa City-County Library’s Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service.

Farmer and Writer Wendell Berry to Receive 2012 Distinguished Author Award

   Wendell Berry has spent the past 20 years working the land settled by his forebears and the past 50 years writing great works of fiction, poetry and essays extolling the virtues of farming, community, rural life and traditional values.

Nearly 50 Tulsa-area Adults on Waiting List for Literacy Tutors

   Imagine life without reading. What if you could not fill out a job application, read the notes from your child’s teacher or understand the instructions on a prescription medicine label? One out of six adults in Tulsa County cannot read well enough to do these tasks.

   September is Literacy Awareness Month. You can help Tulsa City-County Library’s Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service promote literacy in our community by:

·         Tutoring an adult literacy student or English as a second language (ESL) student.

Library to Forgive Fines in September

   Have you avoided the library because of overdue materials you can’t afford to return – or are too embarrassed to bring back?  Tulsa City-County Library customers will be welcomed back to the stacks, thanks to the library’s “Bring Back the Books” initiative.

Summer Readers Earn Free Night with Tulsa Drillers

Library Summer Reading Night

As a reward for reading throughout the summer, Buddy Bookworm and Hornsby extend an invitation to children and teens for a free night at the ballpark.

   Included in each earned coupon packet for children and teens is a voucher good for one free general admission ticket for Library Summer Reading Night when the Tulsa Drillers play the Midland Rockhounds, Aug. 11 at 7:05 p.m.  As an additional bonus, the first 1,000 kids, 14 and under, will receive a free lunch box.  Sponsors for the evening include Tulsa Drillers, Williams and Tulsa City-County Library.
