Owasso Library will be closed August 24 - 30 for library improvements.
Valentine’s Day is almost upon us and it’s the perfect time to curl up with a great romance eBook. Beginning the week of Valentine’s Day the Tulsa City-County Library will pilot an additional eBook service called Always Available eBooks, featuring nearly 800 romance titles, as well as more than 22,000 other titles in dozens of genres from nearly 30 publishers.
Always Available eBooks, powered by library eBook vendor Freading, provides library cardholders with instant access to their chosen titles; no waiting and no “holds” queues. New eBook titles are added weekly to keep the selection fresh.
Anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Tulsa County is eligible to apply for a free library card. The card allows all library customers to download Freading eBooks to their PC, Mac, or compatible eReaders and tablets like iPad, Nook, Kindle Fire, Kobo and Sony Reader. A Freading App also is available in the Apple App Store, Android marketplace and Google Play for downloading on the go to your iPhone or smartphone. For library cardholders who already use the library’s Overdrive-powered eBook system, many Freading-provided books also can be read on the Overdrive App.
“More and more readers are accessing their books on eReaders, tablets and mobile devices,” said Charlotte Frazier, director of support services at TCCL. “With Freading, customers have expanded access to eBooks and, best of all, there is never a waiting list for titles. Book discussion groups will especially like this benefit because it allows for many people to access the same book at the same time.”
This service is funded by the Tulsa Library Trust. The library will offer the Always Available eBooks service through summer of 2013. If this service proves popular with library customers, the library will continue to offer it. So give it a try! If you like the experience, tell all your family and friends.
