Robbie Q. Telfer, author of “Spiking the Sucker Punch,” will open a portal to a world of wonder, whimsy and poetry as he hosts the prequel to the third season of the teen poetry festival Louder Than a Bomb – Tulsa, with a focus on humor in writing and performing.
Teens, ages 14-18, are invited to learn about poetry and more from Telfer, Sept. 13, 6-8:30 p.m. in Central Library’s Aaronson Auditorium, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
“This workshop will focus on the many different ways to get into a poem,” said Telfer. “Sometimes poetry is about the most tragic events in our lives, but through poetry we can also express the other 99 percent of ourselves and this workshop will explore those beginnings.”
Telfer is currently the Director of Performances for Young Chicago Authors, a nonprofit that gives creative writing, performance and mentorship opportunities to Chicago teens. Through Young Chicago Authors, he is the head organizer of Louder Than a Bomb, the Chicago city-wide youth slam and the largest team-based youth poetry slam in the world. He also is the co-founder and curator for the Encyclopedia Show, a live literary variety show being staged independently in more than 10 cities around the world.
