The book for September’s Book Club meeting is James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.
“Here is a broad fantasy with all the gruesome imagery of old-fashioned fairy tales and a good measure of their breathtaking delight.” Kirkus Reviews
This is the story of James, a delightfully sweet kid of meager means who has been orphaned into the care of two heinously villainous aunties (Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spike). Through the touch of some magic pebbles, James’ odyssey to freedom, self-value and happily-ever-after commences. There is the giant peach, some talking over-size insects and a nice message (always a message!).
James and the Giant Peach is the second title by Roald Dahl that Adult Learner Book club has taken on to discuss, the former title being Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which turned out to be a favorite of book club attendees.
Book Club will meet September 30, 6:30-7:30 pm. at HERMAN AND KATE KAISER LIBRARY, 5202 S. Hudson Ave.
