Thursday: 8:30 am-5:00 pm
Schedule Notes: 
Alternating Friday's and Saturday's 8:30am until 5:00pm.
Job Summary: 
  •  Assists library customers in selecting, locating, and using library materials, computers, databases, and other equipment; performs various duties at the public service desk; provides reference assistance and readers’ advisory services for teens and educators; assists with physical maintenance of the tween and teen collections; develops and implements teen programs; performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions: 
  • Assists customers in selecting, locating, and using library materials, computers, databases, and other equipment;
  • Checks library materials in and out and issues library cards;
  • Responds to customers' questions, conducting research and providing answers to reference questions or referring customers to other reference sources;
  • Presents teen programming and works as a team with other branch youth staff to implement programming and to develop and maintain the tween and teen materials collections;
  • Conducts community outreach to neighborhood schools and community organizations;
  • Prepares displays to augment teen services and to promote the collection and programs;
  • Helps develop and maintain the tween and teen collections at this library;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
  • Ability to develop and implement teen programs, with good presentation skills;
  • Good reference skills and the ability to learn;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, and the Internet;
  • Ability to learn library’s automated systems and subscription databases;
  • Ability to operate audio-visual equipment, computer hardware and software, and office machines;
Education & Experience: 
  • Bachelors’ degree required;
  • Experience working with youth required;
  • Bilingual (Spanish) required;
  • No previous library experience required.
Physical & Environmental Conditions: 

The job occasionally requires stooping or bending.  Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four for five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.

 

There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions.  The job may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
