The Khan Acadamy,  www.khanacademy.org, contains over 2,700 videos and 260 practice exercises for people interested in learning anything from arithmetic to physics to investing. As they say, "Watch. Practice. Learn almost anything for free.” Though this site is heavily focused on science (including healthcare and medicine), math, history, and economics, there are also videos for general SAT and GMAT prep.  Take a little time to check it out; we guarantee that you will learn something!

Free Learning Online I: Universal Class

Did you know that you can take free non-credit courses through Universal Class with your TCCL library card number? You can enroll in up to five courses, and you have six months to complete each course. You can take courses that focus on developing specific knowledge and skills, like accounting, history, medical coding, language arts, office skills, etc. You can also take courses to prepare for the GED!

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing is available to our tutors and adult learners in all of our literacy computers labs. This well-loved typing program monitors progress to provide each user with tailored lessons.  Learning the basics of typing is an easy way to become more comfortable with using the computer. This program will be especially helpful to adult learners who will be taking the GED test its new online format in 2014. Online Dictionary for Learners

For a convenient, interesting, user-friendly online dictionary, try The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English. You can type in a word and get clear, easy-to-understand definitions, variations on the word, and topic labels. You can click on topic labels to access the “Topic Dictionary.” Here, you will see a colorful list of words associated with a general topic.
