Dragons, Dragons, and More Dragons!
Does your child love reading about dragons and magic but wants to go on more than one adventure with the same character? Look no further than the How to Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Cowell! Hey, isn’t that a movie series? Yes! In fact, Cowell’s books are the base for the DreamWorks epic multi-movie collection starring our clumsy yet determined hero Hiccup and his best friend Toothless, the Night Fury dragon. So, you can read them and watch!
The great thing about these books is that they fit into two of the KIDS READ reading identities: Magic, Dragons, and Swords plus the Serial Reader. What are KIDS READ identities, you ask? They’re wonderful tools that caretakers can use to help guide children to books that would interest them based on different themes. This link (Kids Read Curious World | Tulsa Library) will take you to the main KIDS READ webpage where you can pull up lists for all the Reader Identities and learn more information about the program.
As part of the Your Next Great Read for Kids service, school-aged children (K to 5th grade) can stop by any Tulsa City County Library and take a short quiz to find out their identity or identities. Just ask for a children’s staff member, and they’ll set you up! Once the quiz is finished, the staff member will put together a specialized folder just for them that includes books lists, fun items like a sticker and notebook, and information about their KIDS READ Identity. Children’s staff are more than happy to help you search for any book on the KIDS READ Identity book lists, so please don’t hesitate to ask! We encourage you to use this tool as a way to foster curiosity and excitement for your child’s next great read.
