Giggles Galore: Hilarious Picture Books for Kids
By Chelsea Appleton, Children's Associate, Hardesty Regional Library
Laughter is the best medicine—especially when it comes to reading! If you’ve ever tried to get a wiggly kid to sit still for a story, you know that humor is a secret weapon. Silly books not only entertain but also help kids develop a love of reading, build vocabulary, and even improve social skills (because who doesn’t love a well-timed joke?).
Here are some fantastic reads that will have kids rolling on the floor:
📖 The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak
Who knew a book without pictures could be so funny? This book forces the adult to say all sorts of ridiculous things, much to kids' delight. Be prepared for giggles and repeated readings!
📖 The Duck Never Blinks by Alex Latimer
Challenge accepted! This interactive and laugh-out-loud book dares the reader to make a duck blink. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. Kids will love trying to out-stare this unblinking duck.
📖 A Pinecone! by Helen Yoon
Daddy is a bit distracted on their autumn walk, while his curious child only has eyes for one of nature’s small wonders: a pinecone! And look, another pinecone! And another! In fact, she could gather an entire collection—an entire extended family—of pinecones if she wanted to.
📖 The Serious Goose by Jimmy Kimmel
This interactive book challenges kids to make a very serious goose laugh. Spoiler: It’s impossible not to!
📖 We Don’t Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins
Penelope the dinosaur is starting school, and she has one tiny problem—she keeps eating her classmates! A hilarious and heartwarming story about making friends (and not eating them).
📖 Who Wet My Pants? by Bob Shea
A mystery like no other—who really wet Reuben the Bear’s pants? This clever and comical story reminds kids that accidents happen, and sometimes, it’s best to own up to the truth.
