Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Is In Tulsa!
By Rebecca Harrison, Imagination Library Community Engagement Manager
Tulsa City-County Library is working 9 to 5 to enroll children under 5 in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library! The Imagination Library is a free book-gifting program that mails high-quality, age-appropriate books to children under the age of 5 who live in Tulsa County. Parents and caregivers can sign up at www.tulsalibrary.org/imagination-library. Every child receives the same welcome book, regardless of age, and the following month the age-appropriate titles will start to arrive.
Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly Parton started her Imagination Library in 1995 to foster a love of reading for the children within her home county. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library helps ensure that all young children have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Recent studies show that the Imagination Library improves kindergarten readiness and family literacy habits. Reading to and with your children and having books in the home helps build a strong literacy foundation and can inspire a lifelong love of learning!
This program is made possible through a partnership with the Birth through Eight Strategy for Tulsa, an initiative of George Kaiser Family Foundation (GKFF-BEST), Tulsa City-County Library, Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) and The Dollywood Foundation.
