Online Tools for Finding LGBTQIA+ Books & Media
Aro Ace Database: The AroAce Database is a searchable compilation of all aromantic and asexual characters in prose fiction out there--or all that we could find so far, at any rate. Enter as many search terms as you need and narrow down the results to what you’re looking for!
Bi-bliography: a regularly-updated database of bisexual books. Too often bisexual stories are erased completely or hidden under the LGBTQIA umbrella, making them difficult to locate. The Bi-bliography seeks to be a resource for the discovery of literature that reflects and explores the lives and experiences of bisexual people.
- Books Not Bans: HURC Foundation's LGBTQ+ Affirming Booklist for Middle school and High School (published Feb. 2022)
The Lesbrary: The Lesbrary is a book blog about bi and lesbian books, with occasional coverage of other identities under the broad “doesn’t identify as a man and is at least some of the time attracted romantically and/or sexually to others who do not identify as a man” category.
PINKMANTARAY: Books can be illuminating portals into the experiences of trans and gender-nonconforming (GNC) individuals. The list below — which highlights titles by and about the trans and GNC community — is divided into sections by audience age, and alphabetized by author’s last name. Books by #OwnVoices authors are denoted with a star.
Queer Books Database: The Queer Books Database is a free, public, searchable database listing queer representation in books. It works similar to Goodreads in that it tells you information about books; it does not provide links to free copies of books. Please check with your local libraries, e-reading apps and/or the book sellers to check out or purchase copies of books.
Queer Comics Database: their mission is to facilitate access to comics that contain queer representation. This includes:
- Comics published in print and on the web.
- Comics from major publishers, independent publishers, and self-published comics.
- Comics for children, teens, and adults, as well as all-ages comics.
- Representation from across the LGBTQIA spectrum, as well as intersectional representation.
Queer Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Database: a resource for anyone looking to find queer science fiction and fantasy books.
LGBTQ Reads: LGBTQ Reads is a site dedicated to promoting curated LGBTQIAP+ literature for all ages, run by author and blogger Dahlia Adler.
Queerspawn Resource Project: By providing education about queerspawn (people with one or more LGBTQ+ parents/guardians) identities, histories, and needs, broadening communal and organizational support for queerspawn, and increasing access to resources that validate queerspawn experiences − particularly those that are often misunderstood, dismissed, or silenced − the Queerspawn Resource Project works to construct more spaces where queerspawn and their perspectives are welcomed and valued.
