Mr. Henry's Books is named in honor of Mr. Henry Zarrow.

This annual workshop for educators features a book by the Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers' Literature recipient; all participants receive copies of a selected book for each student in their class and curriculum focused on the award recipient. Teachers also learn about online education-based library services, and other youth-based programs and services hosted through the library in an effort to further engage them in literacy, learning and the library.

This program is sponsored by Tulsa City-County Library through the Tulsa Library Trust, made possible by a grant from the Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, and hosted in partnership with TulsaKids Magazine.

Attention, middle school and high school teachers and school librarians! You are invited to this continuing education workshop focusing on the works of famed author Kwame Alexander, winner of the 2025 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature.

Central Library | 5th Street & Denver Ave. | Pocahontas Greadington Learning and Creativity Center

  • Receive 50 copies of The Door of No Return by Kwame Alexander for your students to keep as their own. 
    • This book is suited for students in grades 5-12.
  • Learn how to incorporate various elements of The Door of No Return into your classroom and receive lesson plans on using Alexander’s works in a variety of school subjects.
  • Be introduced to Tulsa City-County Library’s Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature.
  • Gain an opportunity to win a classroom visit by Kwame Alexander on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Every participant will receive their student copies of The Door of No Return at the conclusion of the workshop as well as an official continuing-education Professional Development certificate. 

Workshop participants must be employed by a school district within Tulsa County.
