Has your child not yet fallen in love with reading? They could just be stuck in finding the "right" book for them!
For me, I didn't find the "right" book - the "one" that set the precedence for my true love of reading - until I read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
I was immediately captivated by the magical landscape of Narnia, the endearing friendship between Lucy Pevensie and Mr. Tumnus, the evil plotting of the white witch, and the majestic leadership of Aslan. I wanted a magical wardrobe of my own! I wanted the opportunity to go back and forth between the real world and the marvelous world of Narnia.
This book, particularly the determined and brave character Lucy, to other books with similar characters: Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables, Princess Addie in The Two Princesses of Bamarre, and the brave girls in each of the books in the Dear America series.
Just as it happened for me, the right book is out there for your child...and the library is here to help you find it. Please ask a friendly librarian to help you and your child on your journey through a world of joyful reading. We have tools (not to mention experience) specifically to find books that will interest and delight your child.
