For many young children, distance and virtual learning led to a decline in early literacy skills. The Build A Reader app from Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) is a free tool that can help develop early literacy skills in children from birth-preK to grow and sustain a love of reading.
Led by professional library staff trained in supporting children’s literacy and learning development, Build A Reader storytimes follow the Every Child Ready to Read initiative established by the Public Library Association. The free Build A Reader app offers short, bite-sized videos demonstrating songs, fingerplays and great book recommendations in thematic categories such as Animals and Feelings to prepare young children for a lifetime of reading joy.
Plus, when you can’t make it to the library for storytime, you can still get a storytime … in your pocket! Search “Build A Reader” in your device’s app store to download the free Build A Reader app and take fun, educational videos on the go.
This app was made possible by a grant from the Hardesty Family Foundation.
