Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) invites Tulsa County residents to join the conversation and participate in “One Book, One Tulsa,” a communitywide reading initiative focusing on Michelle Zauner’s bestselling memoir “Crying in H Mart” and culminating with a free presentation by the author.

Zauner will discuss her memoir, answer audience questions and sign copies of the book at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue, on Friday, July 28 from 6-7 p.m. Books will be available for purchasing at the event, courtesy of Magic City Books.

The annual “One Book, One Tulsa” event fosters literacy within Tulsa County through this communitywide book reading and encourages conversation about a meaningful work. “Crying in H Mart” is an unflinching, powerful memoir about growing up Korean American, losing a parent and forging one’s own identity. Readers are invited to explore Zauner’s work and then deepen their understanding of the book, as well as Korean American culture and history, through a series of enlightening presentations leading up to Zauner’s visit in July. For series details, visit www.tulsalibrary.org/one-book-one-tulsa-one-tulsa.

Zauner is best known as the lead vocalist of alternative pop band Japanese Breakfast. “Crying in H Mart” is her first book.

“One Book, One Tulsa” is sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust. The event and associated programs are free and open to the public. Copies of “Crying at H Mart” are available for checkout at the library. Learn more about the event or place a copy of the book on hold at www.tulsalibrary.org, or call AskUs at 918-549-7323.
