Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) invites Tulsa County residents to join the conversation and participate in “One Book, One Tulsa,” a communitywide reading initiative focusing on Oscar Hokeah’s debut novel “Calling for a Blanket Dance” and culminating with a free presentation by the author.

Oklahoman and PEN America/Hemingway Award winning author Oscar Hokeah will discuss his novel, answer audience questions and sign copies of his book at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue, on Friday, July 19 from 6-7 p.m. Books will be available for purchasing at the event, courtesy of Fulton Street Books.

The annual “One Book, One Tulsa” event fosters literacy within Tulsa County through this communitywide book reading and encourages conversation about a meaningful work. “Calling for a Blanket Dance” is a moving and deeply engaging novel about a young American Indian man as he learns to find strength in his familial identity.

Readers are invited to explore Hokeah’s work and then deepen their understanding of the book through “Appetizers: Community Conversations,” a series of enlightening programs leading up to Hokeah’s visit in July. For event details, visit www.tulsalibrary.org/one-book-one-tulsa-one-tulsa.

“One Book, One Tulsa” is sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust. The event and associated programs are free and open to the public. Copies of “Calling for a Blanket Dance” are available for checkout at the library. Learn more about the event or place a copy of the book on hold at www.tulsalibrary.org, or call AskUs at 918-549-7323.
