In an effort to encourage reading among Tulsa County’s youngest readers, Tulsa City-County Library announces a change to overdue fines for children, tweens and young adults.

Beginning in October, overdue fines will not accrue for children’s, tween and young adult materials checked out by library customers ages 17 and younger.  Also, customers will be able to renew an individual item 100 times with a maximum checkout period totaling one year, unless there is a hold on a particular item.  If so, then the normal loan period will take precedence.  Adult resources checked out on a youth library card still accrue overdue fines.

“By adopting this policy for our young customers, we will see increased efficiencies in staff time and remove barriers for children and young adults using library materials,” said Suanne Wymer, TCCL deputy director.  “Removing this obstacle will allow families with hectic schedules a few more days to finish their stories without accruing any late fees.”
