Tulsa City-County Library's Summer Reading Program for All Ages Nears Record Sign-Up

Tulsa City-County Library’s Summer Reading Program for children, teens and adults is well on the way to exceeding sign-up numbers compared to previous years.

Through June 16, a total of 37,607 readers of all ages have joined to keep the pages turning this summer; 31,004 children and teens have signed up, while 6,603 adults have joined the program.

To encourage summer reading program participation, Tulsa City-County Library goes beyond the books by offering hundreds of free events to expand learning experiences. By featuring national performers and partnering with local organizations, all ages can find educational programs to enhance their reading enjoyment.

There is still time to sign up for the Summer Reading Program, which ends Aug. 6, and earn free coupons for entertainment and food. Children, newborn to 12 years old, must visit the library four times and read eight books to complete the program. Tweens and teens, having completed fifth grade, can reach their goal by reading six books throughout the summer. Adults complete the program by reading or listening to four books. Sign up by June 30 and be entered in a drawing for a family four pack of OKC Thunder family tickets for their Oct. 13 exhibition game at Tulsa’s BOK Center.

Thank you to the 2016 summer reading program presenting sponsors: Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Tulsa Library Trust, Tulsa’s Channel 8, TulsaKids Magazine, Tulsa Drillers, Tulsa Roughnecks and Tulsa State Fair. Additional support provided by The Mary K. Chapman Foundation and George Kaiser Family Foundation. With their support, families can enjoy the free Summer Reading Program and spend quality time together locally while gaining a sense of accomplishment.

The success of Tulsa City-County Library’s Summer Reading Program is made possible by dedicated library staff, community partners and gracious volunteers. These combined efforts help make Tulsa County an example for literacy excellence.
