Celebrate Our Nation’s First President During An Evening With George Washington

During the first State of the Union address delivered in 1790, President George Washington was optimistic “in the pleasing and arduous task of ensuring to our fellow Citizens the blessings, which they have a right to expect, from a free, efficient and equal Government.”

All ages are invited to spend “An Evening With George Washington” on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 7-8:30 p.m. in Central Library’s Aaronson Auditorium, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue.  The program, presented by Mount Vernon and Tulsa City-County Library, is free and open to the public.

Dean Malissa, the official and sole George Washington historical actor at Mount Vernon, will portray the first president.  Malissa recently completed the PBS documentary “Faith & America’s Founders.”  He also has appeared at The White House, Smithsonian and Independence Hall as well as classrooms and libraries throughout the U.S.  This live historical interpretation will provide engaging entertainment and rich historical content to kick off Washington’s birthday month.

The program features Washington sharing the incredible odds he has to overcome to help establish this nation.  The presidency and our nation have taken a great journey over the last 200 years.  From initiating the role of the president to the debates that surrounded the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, Washington will share with the audience the vision he has for this country’s future.
