Celebrate Tulsa City-County Library’s Hispanic Resource Center’s Quinceañera (15 year celebration) with a family day of crafts, dancing and celebrations Nov. 15 at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road.
The day begins with “Quinceañera Crafts” for ages 5-12, 10-10:45 a.m. Families will learn about the Hispanic celebration as well as make crafts celebrating the Quinceañera.
Ballet Folklorico Sol Azteca will present “Quinceañera Dance Lessons” for ages 10-18, 2-3:30 p.m. This local dance group will share traditional dances as well as a bit of history of the importance of the Quinceañera.
Families are invited to the “Quinceañera Dance,” 7-10 p.m. Both the young and young at heart are invited to help celebrate the Hispanic Resource Center’s 15th birthday with an evening of dancing enjoyment. Come dressed in your finest, enjoy cake, enjoy entertainment by Ballet Folkloric Sol Azteca, and then show off your dance moves to music featuring DJ Sonida Laser.
“For 15 years Martin Regional Library’s Hispanic Resource Center has been making a difference in the lives of our community. The resource center connects new immigrants to necessary resources, serves as a gathering place for Hispanics families, and provides a collection of materials for all ages and interests for the Hispanic community,” said Heather Stack, Hispanic Resource Center interim coordinator. “In Hispanic culture, the Quinceañera is a coming of age celebration for young ladies when they turn 15. In the same way that the whole community comes together to celebrate the young woman, we are inviting the whole community to celebrate our Hispanic Resource Center. Our Fiesta will include something for all ages. We invite everyone to come, learn about the Quinceañera tradition and celebrate with the Martin Regional Library.”
The programs are sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust, Hispanic Resource Center, Hispanic American Foundation and Tulsa City-County Library’s Staff Association.
