BESTSELLING AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATORS
JEFF KINNEY, DAV PILKEY, LINCOLN PEIRCE AND STEPHAN PASTIS TEAM UP FOR SPECIAL FUNDRAISING EVENT
“Drawn Together: Cartoonists Benefit Moore, Oklahoma School Libraries”
Comes to Tulsa Friday, Sept. 27
On May 20, the city of Moore, Okla. was directly hit by an EF-5 tornado. Within seconds thousands of families’ lives were changed forever.
The situation was intensified when news outlets reported the destruction of two elementary schools and the partial collapse of a third elementary school.
As news of the tragedy traveled around the world, all eyes and prayers were centered
on Moore as heart-breaking images showed the destruction. Immediately discussions focused on how to best help in the recovery effort.
Jeff Kinney, award-winning author/illustrator of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series, knew he needed to somehow help the children and teachers regain a sense of normalcy.
He made calls to his friends and fellow book creators Dav Pilkey, of the “Captain Underpants” series, Lincoln Peirce, of the “Big Nate” series, and Stephan Pastis, of the “Timmy Failure” series to enlist their assistance.
Without hesitation the four author/illustrator/cartoonists banded together and agreed to hold a one-of-a-kind fundraiser benefiting the three school libraries that were damaged or obliterated by the tornado.
“Drawn Together: Cartoonists Benefit Moore, Oklahoma School Libraries” comes to Tulsa Friday, Sept. 27 in the Cox Business Center, 100 Civic Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the program will run from 7-9 p.m. Each author will discuss their inspiration and creative process for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, followed by a question and answer session.
Tickets for both children and adults are $10 each. Parking is available at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue, for $5. You can purchase tickets at www.tulsalibrary.org/drawntogether or http://www.showclix.com/event/3774114/
The publishing company for each author has donated 200 autographed books to be sold at the event. One-of-a-kind posters featuring artwork from each author will also be for sale. Autographed original pieces of artwork from each author will be raffled off in addition to other cartoonist memorabilia. All proceeds generated from the event will be donated to the Moore Public Schools Foundation for their school library collections.
“These authors have never been together under one roof before,” said Gary Shaffer, Tulsa City-County Library’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is going to be an awesome event for a most worthy cause. It’s exciting to present these best-selling authors in Tulsa for the first time and to share in the rebuilding of school libraries. Libraries Change Lives.”
The Drawn Together event will then travel to Norman, Okla., Sept. 28 at the Lloyd Nobel Center. Doors will open at Noon and the program will run from 1-3 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Moore Public Schools Foundation for their school library collections.
