Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., will transform as a roomful of emerging female engineers use 3,000 empty Girl Scout Cookie boxes to build designs inspired by the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Six teams will begin construction Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10:30 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. Judging will be based on originality, creativity, technical difficulty, teamwork and advanced meeting with their mentor. Prizes will be awarded at gold, silver and bronze levels.
Tulsa City-County Library and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma have partnered with the Tulsa Alliance for Engineering, Beck Design, McFarland Architects, Tulsa Post Society of American Military Engineers and Dewberry to present this event. Girl Scouts is dedicated to introducing girls of every age to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) experiences.
“This program is a great way for girls to have fun while also flexing their creativity and honing skills related to engineering and mathematics,” said Christina Walsh, Tulsa City-County Library’s teen services coordinator. “We hope this will spark their interest in exploring STEM-related careers, which are historically male-dominated professions.”
