Teens who love books and libraries are encouraged to volunteer at their local library this summer. It’s a cool place to be and be seen.
Tulsa City-County Library is currently accepting applications for Teen Team volunteers for the 2013 summer. Applicants must be 13-15 years old and capable of volunteering several hours a week at a TCCL location. Duties include assisting librarians with activities associated with the children’s summer reading program.
Interested teens should return their applications to the branch where they would like to volunteer. A librarian will schedule an interview, determine a convenient schedule and set a time for training. Applications are available at each TCCL location or by downloading from http://teens.tulsalibrary.org/tccl/teen-team.
All volunteers receive a 2013 Teen Team T-shirt to wear during their shift, as well as a certificate of achievement from TCCL’s CEO upon completion. As a token of appreciation, each volunteer also will receive a $10 Walmart gift card.
“Like any job, Teen Team members report to supervisors who set their schedules and assignments and help them learn the intricacies of working with people,” said Christina Walsh, TCCL teen services coordinator. “It is a terrific work foundation for young teens that helps them when they are old enough to seek regular paying jobs or internships.”
During the 2012 summer, 363 teens volunteered 11,834 hours and helped make the children’s summer reading program a success.
