Library Features "Write On! Readers' and Writers' Panel and Book Fair"

From brainstorming plots and character development to creating the perfect ending, writing can be a solitary pursuit.

To give writers an opportunity to meet and share ideas, Tulsa City-County Library presents “Write On! Readers’ and Writers’ Panel & Book Faire” Jan. 9, 1-4:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St.

Panel Discussion For Aspiring Writers, 1-2:30 p.m., Maple Room. A panel of publishers and writers will share tips on getting your work published. Panelists include Total Publishing & Media, Books-A-Daisy owner and author Karen Graham, Nimrod Editor-in-Chief Eilis O’Neal, Tate Publishing, and authors Will Thomas and Colleen McCarty.

Local Author Book Fair, 1-4:30 p.m., Frossard Auditorium. Meet 40 local authors, buy their books, get them signed and support library programming: 10 percent of all sales will be donated to the Tulsa Library Trust. You also can visit with authors about their creative process and get tips for overcoming publishing hurdles.

Chandler, Mary Coley, Amy Conklin, Joshua Danker-Dake, Rita Durrett, E.P. Ferguson, Hannah Gray Gordon, Shirley Howard Hall, Tricia Harsley, Joe Harwell, Christine Jarmola, J.A. Kimmel, Becky Kruse, Jim Laughter, Reneé La Viness, Mariana Llanos, Barbara Lockett, Colleen McCarty, Stephen McCue, Jennifer McMurrain, Tammy Mullins, A Murder of Storytellers, Rae Neal, Debbie Noble, Barbara Pappan, Mick Schovanec, Dr. Mark Sherwood, Carla Stewart, Will Thomas, Bill Wetterman, Pam Wetterman, Beth S. Wilson and Daniel Wimberley.

The program is in conjunction with Tulsa City-County Library’s 39th annual Adult Creative Writing Contest. The contest is open to any person 18 years or older who lives, works, attends school in Tulsa County or has a nonresident Tulsa City-County Library card. The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 31, 2016.

Submissions of unpublished original text are welcomed in these categories:

• Poetry – with a 400-word limit

• Informal Essay – with a 5,000-word limit

• Children’s Fiction – with a 3,000-word limit

• Short Story – with a 5,000 word limit

A $100 cash prize and a certificate are awarded to the best works in each category. Second-place winners receive a $50 cash prize and a certificate. Certificates are awarded to those receiving honorable mention. Individuals may submit one entry per category. Each entry must have a separate entry form and a $6 entry fee.
