Tulsa City-County Library and OU Physicians-Tulsa kickoff health literacy partnership

First program to feature the truths and myths about concussions

Tulsa City-County Library and OU Physicians-Tulsa are partnering to raise awareness about important health topics through a speaker’s series called the Tulsa Health Literacy Project.

To kick off this series, teens and adults are invited to the free program “The Real Truths and Myths about Concussions: What to do if your child or loved one gets a concussion,” Sept. 26, 6-7:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St.

Join Dr. Eric Sherburn, board-certified neurosurgeon, for this interactive and highly informative presentation geared for parents, athletes, administrators and family members. Attendees will learn about concussions, how to properly manage the symptoms and various options in treating patients who have suffered a concussion. Dr. Sherburn will discuss issues on returning to school, athletics or work, and the pros and cons of various tools used in diagnosing and managing concussions.

Dr. Sherburn specializes in concussions, brain-related problems and spine/back/neck issues. He is part of the OU sports medicine department within OU Physicians-Tulsa. He serves as secretary for the Southern Neurosurgical Society, is a governor to the American College of Surgeons, and consults with the NFL on player concussions.

TCCL has a wide selection of materials for further reading on brain injuries. A display of library resources will be available for checkout at the program.

For more information on TCCL programming and events, call the AskUs Hotline, 918-549-7323, or visit the library’s website, www.tulsalibrary.org.
