Discover and share your family’s heritage with a series of free workshops from the Genealogy Resource Center at Tulsa City-County Library.
Family History Month programs will be offered throughout July, and the event series will conclude with a workshop called “Women in World War II and the Man Who Never Was” on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m.-noon at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., led by Major Joe L. Todd. Todd is an active Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame Ambassador and was an oral historian at the Oklahoma Historical Society from 1982 to 2001.
Other Family History Month programs include:
- “Braving the Wilds of Ancestry.com” on Thursday, July 11 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Nathan Hale Library, 6038 E. 23rd St. This workshop will be presented by TCCL’s Genealogy Resource Center coordinator Aaron Pope and will teach participants what to look for when conducting research through Ancestry.com.
- “Webinar Series” on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join us for a series of webinars, courtesy of RootsTech and the Legacy Family Tree Webinars, covering topics like family history in the American State Papers, Filipino genealogy and more.
- “Researching Adoptive Ancestors” on Thursday, July 18 from 10-11 a.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join Genealogy Associate Meleah Beven as she provides tools and strategies for navigating the records of adoptive family members. Registration is required.
- “Researching in German Records and DIY Family Books” on Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join Aaron Pope, Genealogy Resource Center coordinator, for two instructive sessions. Learn what resources are available for Germany and discover the process of self-publishing a family book. Registration is required.
The Family History Month workshops are open to teens and adults, and registration is required for some programs. Register at www.tulsalibrary.org/events.
Located on the second floor of the Hardesty Regional Library, the Genealogy Resource Center has one of the largest genealogical collections in Oklahoma. Plus, it is designated as an official FamilySearch Center affiliate.
