Discover and share your family’s heritage with a series of free workshops from the Genealogy Resource Center at Tulsa City-County Library.
Family History Month programs will be offered throughout July and will conclude with a workshop on Saturday, July 29 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford. A specialist in the field of African American and Cherokee Freedman genealogy, Nicka Sewell Smith will discuss researching the history and ancestry of both communities, with several workshops to choose from between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Other Family History Month programs include:
- “Finding Your Indian Princess” on Saturday, July 8 from 1-3 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. This workshop will be presented by genealogy specialist Gwen Takes Horse from the Choctaw Nation and is a collaboration between the Genealogy Resource Center and American Indian Resource Center.
- “Researching Latinx American Ancestors” on Thursday, July 13 from 6-7 p.m. at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, in concert with the Hispanic Resource Center. Join Tessa Brawley-Barker from the Genealogy Resource Center and get in touch with your Latinx roots through free online resources.
- “Understanding the Dawes Roll” on Saturday, July 22 from 1-3 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join Jessica Hooser from the Choctaw Nation for this genealogy workshop, presented by the Genealogy Resource Center and the American Indian Resource Center.
The Family History Month workshops are open to teens and adults, and registration is required for each program. Register at www.tulsalibrary.org/events.
Located on the second floor of the Hardesty Regional Library, the Genealogy Resource Center has one of the largest genealogical collections in Oklahoma. Plus, it is designated as an official FamilySearch Center affiliate.
