On Feb. 2, public libraries throughout the U.S. will celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day with activities for children and families.
You can join in the celebration locally by visiting any TCCL location and learn how the library is perfect for families. Take Your Child to the Library day is a free, family event sponsored by the Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries. Each week throughout the year, children’s librarians present storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Through TCCL’s Build a Reader program, parents and young children build a foundation for literacy by participating in these five activities: talking, playing, singing, reading and writing. Research shows that regularly doing these five activities will prepare your child to enter kindergarten with better language and learning comprehension skills.
TCCL offers educational storytimes and activities throughout the year at its 24 locations and they are all free. For more information on library programs and activities, call the AskUs Hotline, 918-549-7323 or visit the library’s website, www.tulsalibrary.org.
