TULSA, Okla. --- England’s two-time Man Booker Prize-winning historical novelist Dame Hilary Mantel is coming to Tulsa Dec. 7 and 8 to receive the 2018 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award.
An internationally renowned master storyteller, Mantel’s works include drama, historical fiction, nonfiction, poetry and short stories. She is best-known for her Man Booker Prize-winning best-sellers “Wolf Hall” (2009) and its sequel, “Bring Up the Bodies” (2012). For the past two years, Mantel has been working silently and intensely to complete the third novel in her “Wolf Hall” trilogy about the rise of Thomas Cromwell in the court of King Henry VIII. She aims to publish “The Mirror and the Light” in the fall of 2019.
For her distinguished body of work and major contribution to the field of literature and letters, the Tulsa City-County Library and Tulsa Library Trust will honor Mantel with the 34th annual Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award, which consists of a $40,000 cash prize and engraved crystal book. She will receive the award at a black-tie gala on Friday, Dec. 7 and will give a free public address on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m. Both events will take place at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue. Copies of her works will be for sale at the public presentation.
