Celebrate and learn about Asian American cultures and customs with entertaining, educational events for the entire family as Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) presents its 20th annual Asian American Festival on Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett. This family-friendly festival is sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust and admission is free.
The festival will feature crafts and activities, live performances, vendors and booths and more.
Scheduled presentations and performances include:
- Hibiki Japanese Drum Team, who will perform songs that channel the power and emotions within
- Kaajhuab, a local Hmong dance team established to create a safe space for Hmong girls and young women to learn teamwork, discipline and self-confidence through the art of dance
- China Roses, a Chinese folk-dance troupe
- Di Dim Dol, a traditional Korean janggu drum dance
The festival will conclude with the annual Japanese tea ceremony led by Tulsa-based Japan native Yumie Farringer.
Booths and vendors include Manila Ice, a local Filipino food truck serving street food and shaved ice; Japan America Society of Oklahoma-University of Central Oklahoma; the East Asia Institute at the University of Oklahoma; Tulsa Global Alliance; Tulsa Kendo Dojo Shin Sou Fu Kan; Thomas Academy Tai Chi Kung Fu; Tulsa Global District; the Tam Bao Buddhist Temple, the Tulsa Japanese Friendship Club and more.
Also, children’s artwork from Kyoto, Japan, will be on display, courtesy of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
