From Vacation to Staycation, Make the Most of Summer!
Summer is just around the corner, and whether you’re planning an exciting trip or a relaxing staycation, the library has what you need to make it unforgettable!
From a cross-country road trip to a weekend getaway, library books can help you create the perfect itinerary. Keep it local by planning a fun-filled day in Oklahoma City with 100 Things To Do in Oklahoma City Before You Die by Lauren Roth or enjoy small-town charm with The Main Streets of Oklahoma: Okie Stories From Every County by Kristi Eaton. Mosey along the Mother Road with the Route 66 Adventure Handbook by Drew Knowles or The Best Hits on Route 66 by Amy Bizzarri. Looking to go further? Expand your horizons with Southwest USA and National Parks by DK Eyewitness, Best Road Trips in the USA by Fodor’s Travel and many more. CLICK HERE to explore these and other items.
Stay entertained on the road with music and audiobooks. With thousands of items available at your fingertips, you’ll never run out of great stories and soundtracks to accompany your journey. Stream full albums on Hoopla and listen to audiobooks through Libby or CloudLibrary. Access all three resources at www.tulsalibrary.org/downloads or find the Hoopla and Libby apps in your device’s app store.
If traveling isn’t in your summer plans, try a new hobby or creative endeavor! The long summer days offer a wonderful opportunity to dive into a new project – and the library has resources to inspire fresh ideas and bring them to life. Use a 3D printer at our Central or regional libraries to make something unique, from custom dice for D&D to a special picture frame, or spend a day in the Renée F. Neuwald Trust Maker Space at Central Library to experiment with the laser engraver, make stickers on the vinyl cutter, record music or podcasts in the Audio Lab and more.
For more information about 3D printing, visit www.tulsalibrary.org/3d-printing-resource-guide. To use equipment in the Maker Space, email MakerSpace@tulsalibrary.org or call 918-549-7442 to schedule an orientation appointment.
Get hands-on at home with craft ideas from the Hobbies and Crafts Source. This online resource contains step-by-step directions for almost any hobby you can think of, from cake decorating and candle making to painting and quilting. Whether you need fun crafts for kids or instructions for a new artistic medium, you’ll find it here. Access the Hobbies and Crafts Source with your library card at www.tulsalibrary.org/databases.
