“Write every day.” That is the advice any award-winning author gives to aspiring writers. The continuous practice helps build essential storytelling skills as well as establishing a daily routine to fuel creativity. Tulsa City-County Library’s annual Young People’s Creative Writing contest can help achieve a writing routine. The contest is geared much like a publisher works. Ann Patchett to Receive 2014 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award

WHAT The Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award is an annual award given by the Tulsa Library Trust. Its purpose is to give formal recognition, on behalf of the Tulsa County community, to internationally acclaimed authors who have written a distinguished body of work and made a major contribution to the field of literature and letters.   The award consists of a $40,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal book.

"The Bully Plays" Presented by Sun Caste Reader's Theater Group

All ages are invited to experience “The Bully Plays” presented by the Sun Caste Reader’s Theater Group, May 1, 7-9 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St. “The Bully Plays” is an exploration of the devastating impact of bullying. Presented with permission from Dramatic Publishing Services, the six vignettes are designed to underscore the tragic consequences of bullying and are performed via reader’s theater by young people ages 8-18.

Tulsa City-County Library Seeks "Teen Team" Summer Volunteers

     Teens who love libraries, books and technology are encouraged to volunteer at their local library this summer as a member of the Teen Team.    Tulsa City-County Library is currently accepting applications for Teen Team volunteers for the 2014 summer.  Applicants must be 13-15 years old and capable of volunteering several hours a week at their community library.  Duties include assisting librarians with activities associated with the children’s summer reading program.

Martin Regional Library Features PBS Series "Latino Americans"

     Join Tulsa City-County Library’s Hispanic Resource Center to watch three episodes of PBS’ “Latino Americans,” the first major documentary series highlighting the rich, varied history and experiences of Latinos.    The films are presented at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S.
