CELEBRATE THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM WITH A FREE TRIP TO THE TULSA ZOO

Tulsa City-County Library’s children’s and teen summer reading programs are nearing the half-way point.  To give readers and extra incentive to keep the pages turning, the library is teaming with the Tulsa Zoo.    Join us for a midsummer celebration June 30, 9 a.m.-noon, to learn about animals, visit the new Helmerich Sea Lion Cove and enjoy other fun activities.  Children and teens who show their summer reading logs or sign up for the summer reading program will receive free admission to the zoo that morning.

Books to Treasure Illustrator to Share His Talents with Families

Mo Willems, a multiple New York Times best-seller, is the featured illustrator for Tulsa City-County Library’s 2012 “Books to Treasure,” an annual event promoting the beauty of children’s literature and introducing the community to popular book illustrators. Willems will speak, answer questions and sign copies of his books during a special visit Nov. 16, 7 p.m. at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue.  This event is free and open to the public.

2012 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award

WHAT: The Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award is an annual award given by the Tulsa Library Trust. Its purpose is to give formal recognition, on behalf of the Tulsa County community, to internationally acclaimed authors who have written a distinguished body of work and made a major contribution to the field of literature and letters. The award consists of a $40,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal book.

Tulsa Library Trust Will Present the 2012 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers' Literature to Jacqueline Woodson

Newbery Honor Book-winning author Jacqueline Woodson is the winner of the Tulsa Library Trust’s 2012 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature.  She will accept her award at a public presentation at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.  She will present the 2012 Young People’s Creative Writing Contest awards at 10 a.m., Aug. 25 at Hardesty Regional Library, Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St.  Her visit is the culmination of the 2012 children’s and teen summer reading programs.
