Award Ceremony Set for Adult Creative Writing Contest

   After the ink dried and the printers cooled the best entries were selected as the winners in the Tulsa City-County Library’s 2015 Adult Creative Writing Contest.   An award ceremony to celebrate local wordsmiths is scheduled for April 11, 2:30 p.m. at the Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford.

Tulsa City-County Library Seeks Teen Team Summer Volunteers

   Teens who love libraries, books and technology are encouraged to volunteer at their local library this summer as a member of the Teen Team.    Tulsa City-County Library is currently accepting applications for Teen Team volunteers for the 2015 summer.  Applicants must be 13-15 years old and capable of volunteering several hours a week at their community library.  Duties include assisting librarians with activities associated with the children’s summer reading program.

Jenks Library to Close March 16-21 to Implement New Service Model

   The Jenks Library, 523 W. B St., will close for one week, March 16-22, for a remodeling to better serve the 21st century library customer.    Once reopen, the library will feature the New Service Model, which was created to structure and operate facilities and services in such a way that libraries remain sustainable and best serve the Tulsa County community into the future.

   As fluent speakers of Native American languages decline, efforts to save these valuable languages are increasing.    Tulsa City-County Library Chief Executive Officer Gary Shaffer saw an opportunity to advance the language preservation efforts of the Cherokee Nation, the largest Native American tribe in the United States with about 315,000 registered citizens around the world.

2015 Interfaith Holocaust Commemoration to feature Tulsa resident Eva Unterman

   In August of 1944, the Nazis liquidated the Lodz Ghetto in Poland. Among the last prisoners to leave were 250 male and 250 female Jews deemed “essential” workers in one of the ghetto’s slave labor factories. This group of 500 was transported directly to Auschwitz, but their ordeal did not start or end there. Tulsa resident Eva Unterman was on that transport.

Tulsa City-County Library selected as finalist for 2015 National Medal for Museum and Library Service

   The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), a federal department, announced Tuesday, Feb. 24 that Tulsa City-County Library is among 30 finalists for the 2015 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

American Indian Festival of Words Honors Joseph Bruchac and Features Family Programs

   Joseph Bruchac will receive the Tulsa Library Trust’s “Festival of Words Writers Award” March 7, 10:30 a.m., at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St.  His award presentation will be followed by a book signing and a day of educational American Indian family events from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Celebrate African-American History Month With Programs at Rudisill Regional Library

   In recognition of February as African-American History Month, the Tulsa City-County Library will present family programs highlighting the achievements and contributions by African-Americans.
