Celebrate the Magical World of Doctor Who

Calling all Whovians!  Enter your TARDIS and journey through time and space to Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., for the free family event “Celebrate Doctor Who!” Saturday, Aug. 15, 1:30-3:30 p.m.    Families will enjoy playing games and testing their Whovian knowledge as they explore the popular sci-fi television series.  There will be plenty of family photo-ops with reenactors from the group “Tulsa Star Force”, a life-size TARDIS, and cardboard stand ups of the latest Doctor Who and current villains.

Tulsa City-County Library Extends Summer Reading Program to Aug. 17

   Everyone loves more time to read.  Now readers have until Aug. 17 to complete Tulsa City-County Library’s children’s, teen and adult summer reading programs.    It pays to read by completing your reading log to earn coupons for free food and entertainment.  Those finishing the program also are entered in an end-of-summer drawing for prizes like bicycles, gaming systems and gift cards.

Great Lego Build-Off Finals Set For Librarium

   Block by block, colorful creations took shape as children and teens used their imaginations to build winning creations in Tulsa City-County Library’s “Great Lego Build-Off Competition.”    Throughout Tulsa City-County Library’s summer reading program, children and teens have participated in preliminary Lego Build-Off competitions at various Tulsa City-County Library locations.    The top three winners from each location will compete in the “Great Lego Build-Off” finals on July 24 at Librarium, 11th St. and Denver Avenue.

“Chapters” literacy fundraiser to feature authors Marisa de los Santos, Lauren Smith and Keija Parssinen

   Spend an enjoyable evening after hours in the library with three favorite authors while helping raise money and awareness for Tulsa City-County Library’s Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service.    In conjunction with National Literacy Awareness Month, Tulsa City-County Library and the Tulsa Library Trust are offering “Chapters: A Casual Evening of Books, Bards and Bites” on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. The cost is $50 per person. Learn to Make Your Own Comics From Professional Artists and Storytellers

   Graphic novels and comics appeal to all ages by presenting a compelling story enhanced with original art that encourages the imagination.  Whether it is a single panel comic or a complete graphic novel, the message is clear: have fun with reading.    All ages are invited to explore the history of comics and learn to create their own stories during two free workshops.  Their workshops are part of Tulsa City-County Library’s summer reading program for children, teens and adults.
