Bixby Library To Feature New Service Model

Bixby Library, 20 E. Breckenridge, will close for renovations Jan. 11 and reopen Jan. 19. Once reopened, the library will feature New Service Model updates to remain relevant for 21st-century library customers. Tavis Smiley To Receive Sankofa Freedom Award

Tavis Smiley, broadcaster, author, publisher, advocate and philanthropist, will receive the 2016 Sankofa Freedom Award, presented by Tulsa City-County Library’s African-American Resource Center. He will accept the award Jan. 28, 2016 at 6 p.m., at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford. Smiley will speak, answer questions and sign copies of his books, which are available for purchase. Since the creation of Kwanzaa in the 1960s, the weeklong event has established itself as an annual celebration of community enrichment. Tulsa City-County Library Announces Return to Previous Paper-Based Summer Reading Program

Despite reduced participation, post-event survey indicates strong appreciation for the program and customers’ desire to continue using library services Officials with the Tulsa City-County Library intend to restore participation in the Summer Reading Program back to the vibrant numbers for which the program is known. The 2015 program had 16,013 participants, a 52.7% decline from 33,857 participants in 2014.
