Summer Reading Program begins with visit from NASA scientist

Kick off TCCL’s 2019 Adult Summer Reading Program with the out-of-this-world program “Meet the Scientist Behind ‘The Martian’: Dr. James Green” Wednesday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Central Library’s Pocahontas Greadington Learning & Creativity Center.    Dr. Green, NASA chief scientist, was the consultant with 20th Century Fox during the making of “The Martian,” starring Matt Damon.

Skiatook Library set to reopen

   Skiatook Library, 316 E. Rogers, will reopen at noon on Thursday, May 16. The library was closed for repairs after minor damage from a broken sewage line.    Library staff is excited to welcome customers back to the book stacks just in time to experience “A Universe of Stories” during TCCL’s 2019 summer reading program.

   Celebrate and learn about the customs and traditions of Asian-Americans with entertaining, educational events for the entire family as Tulsa City-County Library presents its 17th annual Asian-American Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road. The festival is sponsored and funded by the Tulsa Library Trust. Admission is free.

Central Library highlights hip-hop’s artistic achievements through poetry, music and dance

   Discover the contributions of the hip-hop culture when TCCL presents a series of programs featuring local artists, demonstrations and dances.     Throughout April and May, Central Library, Fifth St. and Denver Ave., features the display “Idea Box: Hip-Hop.” Designed as an audio and visual experience, the display includes interactive DJ equipment as well as art created by local artists from the Black Moon Collective and Clean hands.
