Books to Treasure illustrator to share her talents with families

All memorable children’s books feature original art that is filled with colors and depth to draw readers of any age into the magical world of words.    To celebrate the vibrant work of illustrators, Tulsa City-County Library presents the 16th annual “Books to Treasure,” promoting the beauty of children’s literature and introducing the community to popular book illustrators.

   Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Tulsa City-County Library during a month-long series honoring the colorful traditions of Hispanic culture.    Fiestas, a movie night and a visit from award-winning author Cathy Camper and illustrator Raul Gonzalez III, these free family events are a celebration for everyone.

TCCL’s After-School Homework Club seeks volunteers to help students succeed

   Tulsa City-County Library is looking for adult volunteers to provide extra homework help for elementary and middle school students in the After-School Homework Club.    As a “homework coach,” you will share your knowledge with students who need a little extra help with their assignments. For as little as one hour a week you can make a difference in a student’s successful educational progress.

Third Annual Back-to-School Community Resource Fair moves to Tulsa Technology Center

   The Coalition of Hispanic Organizations, Tulsa City-County Library and Tulsa Technology Center are partnering to present the third annual “Back-to-School Community Resource Fair” on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at Tulsa Technology Center, Lemley Memorial Campus, 3420 S. Memorial Drive.    At this free come-and-go event, more than 70 businesses and nonprofit organizations will provide school supplies and/or information about programs and services that can make the school year more successful. One Book, One Tulsa to explore "Killers of the Flower Moon"

   Tulsa City-County Library invites Tulsa County residents to join the conversation and participate in “One Book, One Tulsa,” a communitywide reading initiative focusing on David Grann’s “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” and culminating with a free presentation by the author.

TCCL presents workshop on planning your online legacy

   Do you know how your memories spread between your computer, email and social media accounts will be handled after your death?    Join Katlin Seagraves, Central Library’s Digital Literacy Lab coordinator, as she introduces the basics of digital estate planning during “Online Legacies and Digital Estate Planning.” Participants can choose from one of the following scheduled programs:

Meet best-selling authors, sample local delicacies and support TCCL’s literacy program

You are invited to spend an evening with three best-selling and award-winning authors, enjoy delicious food, and, best of all, support TCCL’s Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service.    As part of National Literacy Awareness Month, TCCL and the Tulsa Library Trust present “Chapters: A Casual Evening of Books, Bards and Bites” Sept. 20th, 6:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. Individual tickets are $50 and can be reserved by calling 918-549-7494.

Discover new cultures at the library during World in a Box Day

Families can explore and learn about cultures from around the globe during “World in a Box Day” Aug. 4, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in Central Library’s Pocahontas Greadington Learning and Creativity Center, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue.    Enjoy live performances, see vibrant dances and participate in hands-on activities for all ages through the Tulsa Global Alliance Cultural Box Program. By visiting each country’s booth, participants will have their passport stamped to show their imaginations have traveled around the world.

TCCL celebrates the world of Harry Potter with Quidditch game, movie marathon and trivia

In the 20 years since J.K. Rowling first published “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” millions of readers have embraced the magical world of muggles.    TCCL will celebrate this achievement with a “Quidditch World Cup: Exhibition Match” at Helmerich Library, 5131 E. 91st St., July 20, 10-11 a.m.

Discuss all things Dylan during book talk with Michael Chaiken

   From becoming a best-selling musician more than 50 years ago to earning a Nobel Prize in Literature, Bob Dylan is one of the most influential artists of all time.    Join Michael Chaiken, curator of the Bob Dylan Archive, for a lively and thought-provoking discussion of Dylan’s memoir, “Chronicles.” Participants are encouraged to read the book prior to the event on July 24, 7 p.m. in Central Library’s Pocahontas Greadington Learning and Creativity Center, Fifth St. and Denver Ave.
